Nebraska

Anyone who provides assisted-living services for pay to four or more residents who are not related to the owner must be licensed as an assisted-living facility. Required services include housing, three meals a day, access to staff 24 hours a day, noncomplex nursing interventions and support with activities of daily living. Facilities that advertise Alzheimer's special care must also meet disclosure requirements (Neb. Rev. Stat. 71-516.01).

Key requirements

  1. License required at 4 or more unrelated residents (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 71-5903)
  2. Administrator must be 21+, complete at least 30 hours of initial training and 12 hours a year after that, and apply to DHHS's ALF administrator registry
  3. Direct care staff get orientation within 2 weeks of hire and at least 12 hours of training a year (175 NAC 4-006.03)
  4. A registered nurse must review medication administration policies and provide or oversee medication aide training; medication aides must meet 172 NAC 95
  5. Enough staff on the premises at all times to meet residents' documented needs
